Chicken Al Pastor Is Back At Chioptle

March 12, 2024 By Dayton937

Chipotle Mexican Grill today announced it is bringing back Chicken al Pastor to restaurants around the world for a limited time starting today. Back by popular demand, Chicken al Pastor levels up any go-to Chipotle order with a sophisticated flavor profile and elevated taste.

Sweet Heat Sizzles at Chipotle
Chicken al Pastor debuted in March 2023 as Chipotle’s first global menu innovation, delighting fans in the U.S., Canada, U.K., France and Germany with a new flavor that quickly became a fan favorite. Prepared fresh daily in small batches, Chicken al Pastor is made with fresh chicken hot off the grill, a rich marinade of seared morita peppers and ground achiote, balanced with a splash of pineapple for the right amount of heat, finished with fresh lime, and hand-chopped cilantro. Chicken al Pastor’s tenderness and bold flavor captured the taste buds of guests who have flooded Chipotle’s social media comments petitioning for the return of the protein since it left menus last August. There have been three times more requests to “bring back Chicken al Pastor” on social media than any other limited time offering in the brand’s history.

“About one in five transactions included Chicken al Pastor when it was featured on our menu last year,” said Chris Brandt, Chief Brand Officer. “Given the performance and the fans wanting its return so enthusiastically, we are thrilled to make this the fastest item to ever come back to Chipotle.”

The Fan Favorite Chicken al Pastor Entrée
Chipotle is revealing the most ordered Chicken al Pastor burrito bowl among fans in 2023, which includes White Rice, Black Beans, Fresh Tomato Salsa, Roasted Chili-Corn Salsa, Cheese and Guac. Vice President of Culinary Nevielle Panthaky says, “The rich flavor of our Chicken al Pastor shines in the fan favorite bowl. Each ingredient layers for the perfectly balanced bite with the right level of sweetness, acidity, and heat. It is simple, flavorful, unbelievably delicious, and has everything you crave.”

The “Most Ordered Chicken al Pastor Bowl” is available for convenient one-tap digital ordering in the Chipotle app, Chipotle.com and Chipotle.ca. Chipotle is celebrating the menu item’s return with a $0 delivery fee offer* on all Chicken al Pastor orders placed through the Chipotle app, Chipotle.com and Chipotle.ca from March 14 through March 24 in the U.S. and Canada.

Ramadan Has Begun

March 11, 2024 By Dayton937

The 2024 Ramadan season starts began March 10 and ends April 9. This is an annual holiday for Islam that is known for daily fasting. The fast entails abstinence from eating, drinking, smoking and sexual relations during daylight hours to achieve greater “taqwa”, or consciousness of God. The word “Ramadan” itself comes from the Arabic term “Ramad / Ramida,” which means scorching heat or drought. Fasting symbolizes abstinence from eating, drinking, and other physical needs during daylight hours. Fasting is one of the Five Pillars of Islam, emphasizing piety, self-discipline, and spiritual reflection.

What Does Ramadan Celebrate?

Islam tradition believes that the Prophet Muhammad was given the Qur’an, Islam’s holy text, during Ramadan, according to Britannica.

What Do Muslims Do During Ramadan?

Ramadan is a time of self reflection, prayer and studying the Qur’an.

Muslims practice restraint, one of the five pillars of Islam, during Ramadan. Fasting is the most well known practice of restraint during Ramadan, but it can be interpreted to include sexual activity, immoral behavior and impure or unkind thoughts.

The restraint from these activities is practiced from sun up to sun down. During this time, Muslims may not eat or drink, including water. Muslims will generally eat breakfast before dawn and dinner after dusk. The early morning breakfast is called suhur, and is most commonly eaten at home. The evening meal is called iftar and is often a communal event. Iftar may take place at mosques or community centers.

Because fasting is physically taxing, exemptions are often given for children, elderly, pregnant women and the ill.

The end of the Ramadan fast is celebrated as one of the two major Muslim holidays, called Eid ul-Fitr,  Gifts, celebrations, special prayers and sermons are common for Eid ul-Fitr.

Victor’s Taco Shop 14th Location Now Open

March 8, 2024 By Lisa Grigsby

Victor’s Taco Shop opens their 14th location today on Far Hills Avenue, in a spot that was formerly Taco Bell.  Not familiar with this family owned business? It was started in 2008 by partners Hector & Victor, the  first two locations were in Marion and the city of Delaware in central Ohio.

According to co-owner Jonathan Gaytan, Victor’s Tacos is named after Gaytan’s father.  Partner Hector Gonzales has also opened a few Hector’s Taco’s on his own, but still parters with Jonathan and his father to grow.  Victor’s Tacos is unique because everything is made fresh daily, and the food is the same high quality as a sit down restaurant, but with the speed of fast food.  Jonathan told us he’d had his eye on this Far Hills locations for about 4 years, but every time he inquired it was under contract to another business, and then he’d be contacted and he was in the middle of another opening, but finally the timing worked and he was able to get the building under contract.

Victor’s features a variety of Mexican specialties, including tacos, enchiladas, burritos, taquitos and tostadas, as well as omelets and breakfast burritos. Protien choices include Carne Asada (sliced beef), Carnitas (pork), Adobada (marinated pork), breaded fish, shrimp, and grilled chicken.

The menu is pretty extensive and they serve the breakfast burritos all day long.  At last night’s sneak peek about 20 guests were treated to a free meal and the reviews from the diners were great.  Food came out quickly and many of us ended up walking out with to-go boxes due to the generous portions. This opening week Jonathan says they’l be open 10am – 10pm and by next week they’ll begin opening daily at 8am.  Next up for Victor’s, expanding to Columbus and Cincinnati.

Looking at 2024’s Election…through Younger Eyes!

March 7, 2024 By Y. K. Cuts

Here We Go Again!

Curt (names changed for article) is a junior in education at Wright State University. He is part of a class that is learning about Democracy, and just how precious it really is.

‘We are all invested in saving the voice of the people. I say all, but I really mean, the people I talk to!’ Curt is worried…not so much about young people showing up at the polls, but about his future, and his classmates. ‘We are having to vote to reinstate and reinforce what our parents took for granted. That’s a problem. Why are things ticking backward? Where is the country they were living in?’

For Jordin, it’s a bit diferent. ‘This Class (ED2100:Education in a Democracy) has made me mad. I mean, that’s no fault of the Professor (who sits to her left). It’s the fact that it seems like we keep focusing in on old white guys. (Which their professor just happens to be.) Why are we only seeing these guys, and what’s worse, seeing them AGAIN! I mean, of all the people in this country and we have these 2 to choose from? Again? Time to evolve America!’

There are 18 students in the class, and weekly, topics that bring about the fundamentals of a Democracy are discussed. The professor likes to make sure that each week, a current event or issue is talked through.

‘We talk about it all. Feminism, LGBTQ, Guns, Drugs, Capitalism, Hate Speech, Religion….and so much more. These students have strong, educated opinions. They are engaged and have brains like sponges! They want information…’

Jodin interjects ‘But NOT misinformation! People think we look at TikTok and say ‘that’s reality…’ We are not stupid. We know when we are being led astray,’

Using Their Voice!

Sharnice jumps in, ‘And we can figure out what the media, no matter which side it is leaning into, is trying to sell. We grew up knowing that news is biased. Our parents didn’t. It was 2 or 3 stations and they gave out the headlines. Period. Now it’s some crazy-ass giving their opinion for 60 minutes at a time.’ She scoots back in her chair and raises her hand in a ‘ok, I’m done,’ fashion.

The Professor smiles and nods. ‘I want them to research that in particular. We spend time looking into reliable sources. Misinformation is a cancer. It’s nearly impossible to overcome. And, extremists on both sides, are allowing it to divide us very deeply.ON thing I stress ie Republicans and Democrats are Americans…that should be the tie that binds!’

‘At first, I was like, I’m not voting this time around…’ Curt adds. ‘Now, after having a chance to talk about stuff, I will always vote. And with a passion for it. Our professor pushes us…he tells us things that are balanced and fair. He defends both sides…’

Topics to Discuss!

‘Or doesn’t defend either side. This is how America should be talking! Like we do in class. Openly, and unafraid, We are watching our leaders act like fools. I mean, they don’t do their job. Why the hell aren’t they fired?’ Sharnice goes in hard…’Watching them go at each other, or fighting  about WOKE, or calling names, or bitching about gas prices, when they have it all!! They literally have everything they need. I told our prof, why is it the ones complaining the loudest have everything? Money, big house, golf course? And they show up on tv…acting like somebody took something from them! Turn your attention to the U.S.A. We need shit!’

The group laughs, but feels the pain she feels. Sharnice shared she is barely able to afford school but she wants to teach kids and will find a way!

Ellie, finally, chimes in. ‘Everyone knows I’m one of the more conservative members of class. I do want to state I do believe in a woman’s right to choose, so don’t start in on me Jordin…’ they all laugh…’I grew up in a very religious household and those values carried me through a lot. I’m empathetic…and I try to be compassionate as much as I am able. I just think we have to protect our streets, We need to have great jobs. We need a strong economy. I feel like families are struggling. They will all tell you that I find a lot of liberal ideas are not well thought out. They are not tried. It’s like, ok that didn’t work, so now let’s spend a bunch of money on this. That seems dangerous at times. I think it’s unfair to hard-working people.’

You can feel a little tension in the room. Curt breaks the silence. ‘I hear what you are saying Ell, I do. I respect your strong opinion.’

WSU Students Talk It out!

To their professor, the class is working well when they get to this point. They are developing a way to ‘agree to disagree.’

Sharnice wraps up the conversation in a pretty little bow….’We have break in 6 minutes. Here’s what’s really cool. We all go together and get coffee at ReyRey and come back ready to talk so more! Look, who knows who will be our next leader. We just know it’s best to support each other!’

More to come as we head into the election of 2024…..

Dayton Named to USA TODAY’s Top Places to View the Total Solar Eclipse

March 6, 2024 By Dayton937

Dayton and Montgomery County are preparing for a once-in-a-lifetime event on Monday, April 8, as a Total Solar Eclipse will plunge the region into darkness for 2 minutes and 43 seconds, beginning at 3:09 p.m.

Adding to the excitement, USA TODAY just named Dayton as one of the 12 best places in the country to see the eclipse!

For those planning to “get mooned” in the Dayton & Montgomery County area, the Dayton Convention & Visitors Bureau (Dayton CVB) has created a special solar eclipse website at www.dayton-eclipse.com. It offers a variety of resources for out-of-town visitors and local residents, including information about the FREE Solar Eclipse Day at Dayton’s primary viewing location, the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force™.

“As one of the Ohio destinations in the path of totality for the solar eclipse, we expect a significant influx of visitors to Montgomery County and surrounding areas,” said Dayton CVB President and CEO Jacquelyn Powell.

Powell continued, “The Dayton Convention & Visitors Bureau’s eclipse website serves as a ‘one-stop shop’ for those seeking information about viewing the eclipse here. It’s the first total solar eclipse in Ohio since 1806, the last one the continental U.S. will experience until 2044, and the last one Ohio will experience until 2099.”

The website includes general information about viewing the eclipse, including planning and safety tips, a listing of local eclipse viewing events, as well as other area events and activities happening in conjunction with the eclipse, searchable listings of Montgomery County hotels and restaurants, information about hotels offering special eclipse packages, and information about area attractions. The site will be continuously updated in the weeks leading up to the eclipse.

“With the eclipse occurring on a Monday, our hope is that out-of-town visitors will come early and stay after the eclipse, to experience everything that Dayton has to offer,” Powell said. “We expect the eclipse to have an increased economic impact for the region.”

Through March 9, visitors to the Dayton CVB’s eclipse website can also enter to win a Dayton Eclipse Get-Away package, including a two-night stay at the Drury Inn & Suites Dayton North on April 7 & 8, plus a Dayton Solar Eclipse Gift Basket.

The site includes information about eclipse activities at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force™, which will serve as the area’s primary viewing location for the eclipse on April 8.

“As Dayton’s largest attraction, the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force is an ideal location for an eclipse viewing event,” Powell said. “It offers ample free parking and open green space to accommodate visitors, as well as access to a world-class museum, encompassing 19 indoor acres, that will be open to visitors the day of the eclipse.”

Planned happenings at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force™ take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and include: hands-on educational activities for families; rocket launches presented by the Wright Stuff Rocketeers; a hot-air balloon glow from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.; live-streams of NASA’s eclipse coverage; eclipse presentations; and a free 30-minute Air Force Band of Flight concert following the eclipse. Food trucks will be on-site throughout the day, and the museum galleries, including the new Dinosaurs in Motion exhibit, will be open to visitors until 6 p.m. In preparation for the eclipse, the museum will also offer in-person and live-stream eclipse-themed educational classes scheduled throughout March. Detailed information about the museum’s eclipse activities can be found atnationalmuseum.af.mil/Upcoming/Eclipse.

“The Dayton Convention & Visitors bureau looks forward to welcoming many first-time visitors to the Dayton area for a safe and fun experience on April 8,” Powell said. “With thousands of visitors expected in the region for the total solar eclipse, we encourage both local residents and those coming into the area to plan ahead, allow extra time for travel, and be patient and welcoming.”

As Dayton and Montgomery County’s destination marketing organization, the Dayton Convention & Visitors Bureau collaboratively leads and advocates for the development of the region’s visitor economy, which contributes to a thriving community, a diverse tax base and lifestyle amenities for everyone to enjoy.
