Wayne and Clover Coffee to keep the ‘Light’ on for Dayton!

November 24, 2025 By Dayton937

Press. Wholly Grounds. MidDay. Dayton has some amazing coffee shops. Among them has been the beloved ‘Ghostlight’ in South Park Historic District. Facing challenges, the owner faced a tough decision: how to move on. With that, 2 of Ghostlight’s biggest fans, Tim Farquhar and Joshua Stucky heard the news and immediately reacted! ‘No way are we letting this place go. It is a Dayton Landmark. We have to find a way to keep the ‘light’ on.’  Within less than 2 weeks, a deal was struck to save the iconic shop. ‘We are thrilled…and a bit overwhelmed!’ says Farquhar.

‘It happened so fast, we are definitely playing catch-up to all things. We are looking for bakers, retail opportunities, graphic artists and events for the space. All the while, we are keeping the world’s best coffee shop team intact and operating as best we can! People have been so incredibly supportive of this!’ Says Stucky. ‘We have found a fantastic partner in ContempoRoast Coffee & Roastery. We had a cupping class with them, and it was an instant connection. They understand our desire to make ‘coffee integrity’ the number one factor in partnering! They are simply amazing people!’

Ghostlight is well-known for its diverse customer base, and the new owners love it! ‘Oh my goodness. In our first week, it was so cool to meet so many people from so many walks of life. They are definitely a family here…it’s apparent!’ The new owners are taking over the entire first floor of the building in hopes of creating more space for small meetings, acoustic music, events, and more. ‘The potential here is limitless,’ says Farquhar.

So what’s with the new name ‘Wayne and Clover’ you ask? ‘Funny story. I was having coffee with my husband the day we found out we were getting this opportunity. I went through every name I could. I remember learning in business ‘if you can incorporate your address, it’s a good idea.’ I sat up and said, ‘Wait….Wayne and Clover! WAYNE and CLOVER! Think about it…they are people! Wayne and Clover are people, and they have a coffee shop! AND that’s the corner where we are located! SHAZAM! It immediately stuck. Wayne and Clover Coffee Shop. (The shop is located at 1201 Wayne Avenue.) And from there, the story grew to include the street behind us, which is Theobald…you guessed it, THEIR DOG! I think he is likely to be the mascot for all things Wayne and Clover!’

Part of the community piece will be inviting local artists to give ideas for the look of W & C’s logo and artwork that follows the story of the neighborhood and the future!

The building is also important to South Park. It has become a gathering spot for the area. ‘We want to respect the fact that this is more than a coffee shop. For South Park, it is a home away from home. We will do our level best to keep the ‘Light’ in the store so it’s familiar and fun!’ The coffee shop is supporting Miami Valley Meals this holiday season.

Wayne and Clover Coffee Shop is located at 1201 Wayne Ave. Dayton, OH 45410.

Dayton at Work and Play: Dayton Foodbank

November 24, 2025 By Bill Franz

At the Dayton Foodbank, one of the most important places in town.
This economy funnels money from the bottom to the very top. The 200 million at the bottom now have less wealth than the richest 1,000 Americans. That makes foodbanks more important than ever. Helping people in Montgomery, Greene and Preble Counties get enough to eat is the mission of Dayton’s Foodbank.
The Foodbank works with a network of 122 nonprofits to get food to those who need it. In addition, it operates mobile pantries in areas without a local food pantry. It also operates programs for children and for the elderly who are at risk of going hungry.
The Foodbank couldn’t run without lots of volunteers. Some local businesses even give teams of employees a day off to work at the Foodbank. Since they’re buying food for 122 different nonprofits, the Foodbank has the purchasing power to buy at the lowest possible price. For every dollar that’s donated, the Foodbank can provide food for four meals to the community.
If you’re interested in volunteering or donating, go to https://thefoodbankdayton.org/give-time/

Jubie’s Creamery Makes the Best Flavor in North America

November 22, 2025 By Dayton937

Jubie’s Creamery took their ice cream to Palm Beach, FL earilier this month to compete against some of the best ice cream shops in the country at the Annual Ice Cream Association Conecon.

As all  1000 ice cream attendees voted
Jubies’s attendees at the convention Jubie’s Hot Honeycomb sweeped with Best of the Midwest and Best Flavor overall!  This is the highest award given at Conecon. This means they literally have the BEST FLAVOR IN NORTH AMERICA!  They didn’t do it on their own, so they want to thank Tasty Bacon Food Truck and Winans Chocolate  for offering incredible, local products featured in Hot Honeycomb.

At the same Convention, they also submitted their Vanilla, Chocolate, and Strawberry ice creams for the chance to become a Grand Master Ice Cream Maker
Over the last 3 years, they’ve been working towards this award and submitting our Vanilla, Chocolate, and Strawberry flavors as a part of the Ice Cream Clinic program.
Each year, we ship these 3 classic flavors to Cornell University to get science tested according to FDA standards to ensure food safe manufacturing practices on the molecular level. These flavors are then tasted by the University’s renowned Dairy Extension Team and scored according to ice cream industry standards such as flavor, texture, structure, color, melting point, etc.
At the beginning of every convention, they learn about how their flavors tested and scored. Depending on the score, you can earn a white, red, or blue ribbon of excellence. Any company that receives 3 blue ribbons in a 5 year time span is rewarded for their excellence and consistency in their products and overall manufacturing practices.

This year was their 3rd year of winning the coveted blue ribbon (with 4 total blue ribbons under their belt) meaning they are now officially Grand Master Ice Cream Makers along with 8 other well-deserving shops in North America! Who knew all the reasons you love Jubie’s so much was backed by all this science?!

Red Shoes Dayton 25 Exhibit

November 21, 2025 By Dayton937

Red Shoes Dayton 25 has the honor of representing the Midwest in commemorating the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

This compelling, symbolic art exhibit will be held at the Downtown Dayton Metro Library in their beautiful Atrium, from November 21-25, 2025. Each pair of Red Shoes was painted for this exhibit by survivors of violence, local artists and supporters. We stand with them to bring awareness, protest violence, and to pause to reflect.

The public ceremony will commence on November 22, 2025 at 2pm, and will include the reading of our proclamation from the City of Dayton by Neenah Ellis, a reading of the Poem “These Shoes” and a tribute played by cellist Tara Mar.
“25 Red Shoes” was originally launched in 2009 by international artist Elina Chauvet’s influential art installation “Zapatos Rojos”, to bring awareness and protest Domestic Violence after her own sister died in an act of violence inflicted by her husband. It has since become a global event, with installations in international cities worldwide.

Globally, 140 women and girls are killed by a family member or intimate partner every day. 17% of those murders take place in the United States. 29% of women in the US have reported a form of violence.

This event is free and open to all. Resources will be available on-site about supporting survivors of domestic violence.

Dayton at Work and Play: Springfield Museum of Art

November 17, 2025 By Bill Franz

We’re having a memorial service for my father-in-law, so I wanted to retrieve a piece I had in the Springfield Art Museum’s member’s show. The piece is called “The Relatives Came” and I thought the relatives and friends coming to the service might want to see it. The member’s show runs through December 28, so I didn’t just leave space on the wall. I replaced the original piece with a piece called “Family Soccer Game” which you can see on the lower left corner. It’s one of my favorite pieces.
If you go to the museum there’s a very interesting show called ‘Unearthing: Searching through Strata” by artist Anita Cooke. She was a potter in New Orleans until her studio was buried in mud after Hurricane Katrina. Digging through the wreckage she unearthed her aunt’s 1950s sewing machine and started pushing her art in a new direction.
She paints canvasses, tears them apart, and then stitches them together into intricate constructions. I’m posting two images of one called Night Sky Network made of painted canvas, thread and metal pins mounted on wood boards. You really need to see this and the other works in this show in person.

Chipotle offers BOGO on Thanksgiving Eve

November 15, 2025 By Dayton937

Chipotle Mexican Grill announced it will help fuel Thanksgiving Eve gatherings among friends and family with an in-restaurant “Back Home BOGO” offer on Wednesday, November 26, from 4 pm to close. Often known as the biggest reunion night of the year, the Wednesday before Thanksgiving brings college students back to their hometowns to reconnect with friends. Chipotle invites fans to share real food with friends before the night’s festivities kick off.

On the night before Thanksgiving, Chipotle will fuel hometown reunions with an in-restaurant BUY-ONE-GET-ONE (BOGO) entrée from 4 p.m. to close local time.

“For many of our guests, their hometown Chipotle is where they’ve created countless memories, and this Thanksgiving Eve, it’s a destination where reunions can begin,” said Chris Brandt, President, Chief Brand Officer, Chipotle. “Whether you’re grabbing dinner with your childhood friends or kicking off the holiday early with relatives, our Back Home BOGO makes it easy to bring people together with real food.”

To celebrate Cyber Weekend, Chipotle is running a $0 delivery fee offer on orders placed through the Chipotle app and Chipotle.com from Friday, November 28 through Monday, December 1 with code CYBER25.

Chipotle recently introduced Build-Your-Own Chipotle (BYOC), a digital-exclusive family meal that brings a shareable, customizable spread of real ingredients to your home, designed to serve four to six and ready for pickup in as little as 15 minutes starting at $56. It is perfect for hosting Friendsgiving and family gatherings, letting everyone build their own burrito bowls, salads, soft tacos, and even nachos. Guests have the option to add an extra 8 oz of protein, the equivalent to two servings, to their BYOC order. This allows guests to choose two different proteins.

Each order includes:

  • One protein (24 oz): choice of chicken, steak, braised beef barbacoa, carnitas or Sofritas
  • One rice: choice of white rice or brown rice
  • One bean: choice of black beans or pinto beans
  • One premium side: choice of guac or Queso Blanco
  • Choice of three salsas/toppings: sour cream, tomatillo-red chili salsa, tomatillo-green chili salsa, roasted chili-corn salsa, fresh tomato salsa
  • Shredded romaine lettuce and cheese
  • Two large bags of chips
  • Eight soft taco tortillas
  • Forks, napkins and bowls for six people

For a limited time, fans can enjoy $10 off their first BYOC order with code TRYBYOC through December 31 or until 500,000 redemptions, whichever comes first.
