After touring over 100 cities in 24 countries and entering CNN’s list of “Must-See” exhibitions, Art of the Brick is finally open in downtown Cincinnati!. The exhibit immerses the visitor in a cheerful and colorful world. The artist used more than a million bricks, creating over 100+ works of art that can make adults and children smile and reflect.

Art of the Brick: An Exhibition of LEGO®

The collection includes many sculptures alongside re-imagined versions of some of the world’s most famous art masterpieces, such as Michelangelo’s David, Van Gogh’s Starry Night and Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa. Visitors will also find a 6-metre-long reproduction of a Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton and an innovative, multimedia collection of LEGO photography produced alongside award-winning photographer Dean West. The experience is further enhanced with an interactive audio guide, offering deeper insights into each piece

Former New York City lawyer turned contemporary artist Nathan Sawaya is the mastermind behind this stunning exhibition that takes these small plastic LEGO® bricks and turns them into stunning, larger-than-life masterpieces.

If you’re a lover of classic art like Gustav Klimt’s famous portrait of ‘The Kiss’ will be on display, as well as Michelangelo’s ‘David’ statue, and replicas of Van Gogh’s ‘Starry Night’, Edvard Munch’s ‘The Scream’, and Da Vinci’s ‘Mona Lisa’.

Dayton Hosts First Lego Convention This August

Dayton is going to have its first ever LEGO convention when the BrickUniverse LEGO Fan Convention arrives to the Dayton Convention Center in downtown Dayton for two days: August 18-19, 2018. The event is building on LEGO’s amazing popularity and ingenuity with awesome attractions all centered around everybody’s favorite plastic building blocks.

At past events, the team at BrickUniverse has witnessed thousands of LEGO fans show up to enjoy live LEGO builds, the Building Zone with thousands of LEGO bricks for attendees to build with, and select galleries of amazing and lifesized LEGO models. The organizers has predicted that the Dayton event will be one of the best that they have ever produced and will be sold-out.

Professional LEGO artist Jonathan Lopes will be coming from San Diego, California to showcase over 30 of his select LEGO displays including an 8-foot high LEGO Model of New York City’s Woolworth Building. He will be in attendance all weekend and will be able to talk to attendees on his life as a professional LEGO artist and how they, too, can be LEGO master builders.

Additionally, Chicago-based LEGO artist Rocco Buttliere will be bringing over 50 massive LEGO models of famous landmarks from around the world. See the largest skyscraper in the world, Burj Khalifa, the full Westminster Palace in London, and more famous landmarks all built from LEGO bricks! Both artists have had exhibitions around the world: London, Chicago, Dallas, Copenhagen, and New York.

Other attractions include:

  • LEGO Friends Building Area: tons of LEGO Friends bricks to built with
  • Big Brick Building: younger visitors can explore imagination through building with larger LEGO Duplo bricks
  • LEGO Retail: purchase LEGO merchandise and goodies
  • Star Wars Zone: build spaceships and more with thousands of LEGO STAR WARS themed bricks
  • The Building Zone: thousands of bricks laid out for attendees to build with
  • And more!

Tickets are available for either Saturday, August 18 or Sunday, August 19, with 2 sessions each day:

Saturday: 10am-1pm + 2-5pm

Sunday: 10am-1pm + 2-5pm

Tickets run $15/session.   Children younger than 18 years old require a paid adult.  Children two years old and younger are free. Tickets do sell out, so early booking is advised at www.brickuniverse.com/dayton

Roadtrip for Lego Lovers

It’s not often that DaytonMostMetro is going to suggest you get in your car and head to the mall in Cincinnati, but if you’re a fan of history, Lego or visual arts, we’ve got to say, GO!  You’ve got until July 19th to head to Kenwood Towne Centre and catch The Lego® Americana Roadshow.   Featuring giant replicas of the nation’s most recognizable landmarks made from thousands of bricks, this display is truly amazing.

The Lego® Americana Tour is a highly visual, educational and free traveling installation of larger-than-life Lego® models. Replicas of iconic buildings and architectural structures will be on exhibit at various locations throughout the shopping center. The one-of-a-kind, large scale models of American landmarks made completely out of Lego® bricks by Lego® Master Builders will entertain customers with stunning visuals and fun facts. Featured landmarks include: U.S. Capitol Building, White House, Supreme Court, Washington Monument, Jefferson Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Statue of Liberty, Independence Hall and Old North Church.

LegoKenwood Town Centre is located at 7875 Montgomery Road in Cincinnati.  From Dayton take I75 south about 35 miles then take exit 16 to merge onto I-275 E toward I-71/Columbus.  In 6 miles take exit 49 to merge onto I-71 S toward Cincinnati, then take exit 12 for US-22/Montgomery Rd/OH-3 and the mall will be towards your right.

One Stop Brick Shop- Lego Show Comes TO Caesar Creek Flea Market

Bring your LEGO loving little ones to enjoy a FREE LEGO Show at Caesar Creek Flea Market the weekend of July 26th and 27th!   Over 400 square feet of LEGO’s and 30 exhibit tables will be on display from regional groups such as the Michigan LEGO Club, Fred’s “One-Stop-Brick-Shop,” and the Ohio Youth Robotics and First LEGO League.

 
You and your family will enjoy the many colorful, creative, architectural displays of LEGO ingenuity!  From the simple to the complex – see how these nationally competitive clubs have taken thousands of  little squares and shapes and combined them to reach a whole new level of play!
For those interested in Robotics, there will be Live Demos and Interactive Displays to watch and experience firsthand!
Caesar Creek Flea Market will also have a Kid’s Interactive Area with a place for kids of all ages to“Build Your Own Creations,” plus “Face Painting by Jen,” and special “Meal Deals” in their concession areas!  It’s all happening Saturday and Sunday, July 26th and 27th from 9:00am to 5:00pm at Caesarcaesar-creek-flea-market Creek Flea Market – located at 7763 St. Rt. 73W. in Wilmington, OH 45177.  Get hip this summer and build some great family memories at the Market!
