Wendy’s Strawberry Frosty Has Arrived

June 6, 2022 By Dayton937

Starting today, June 6, and for the first time nationally, the Strawberry Frosty will be available for a limited time, joining the Chocolate Frosty in our famous Frosty lineup.

Wendy’s Strawberry Frosty merges the same creamy, delectable profile you know and love in a classic Vanilla Frosty with the sweet flavor profile of a freshly picked strawberry. Each spoonful is a thick and flavorful bite that will keep you cool on even the hottest days.

I said “spoonful,” because the Frosty was created to be eaten with a spoon. The spoon-ready consistency falls perfectly between a milkshake and soft-serve ice cream, which is what makes it such an iconic dessert.

And did you know the Frosty has been a staple on the Wendy’s menu since the first restaurant opened in 1969? It was actually one of the five original menu items, meaning Wendy’s has been delivering this one-of-a-kind treat to ice cream lovers for over 50 years.

Showcasing their commitment to Fast Food Done Right, the new Strawberry Frosty is shaking up the in-restaurant, delivery and drive-thru dessert game. Whether you’re on your way to the beach or an afternoon picnic, I promise you’ll be tempted to pull over and pick one up on the way. For the most dynamic flavor experience, however, you’ll want to dip Wendy’s reimagined Hot & Crispy Fries into the Strawberry Frosty. It’s a sweet and salty creation unlike anything you’ve ever tasted.

Register Now for 2022 Great Miami Riverway Fishing Challenge

June 6, 2022 By Dayton937

The Great Miami Riverway is announcing that registration is now open for the third annual GREAT Smallmouth Bass Fishing Challenge to be held on the Great Miami River from June 18 to July 10. This family-friendly event is a catch-and-release, virtual fishing tournament, where anglers use the I-Angler app to register and send in their catches. This year there are two separate gear divisions – one for spin (conventional) and fly fishing.

Major sponsors include ReelFlyRod of Bellbrook, home to the nation’s largest inventory of premium fly fishing gear in the US; the North American Professional River Angler’s Association; and Dayton-based bait and fishing supply store Fishermen’s Headquarters.

The Great Miami River is Ohio’s best river for catching smallmouth bass, according to the number of smallmouth trophy-sized fish registered on the Fish Ohio database, the Ohio Department of Natural Resource program for recognizing significant catches for all species caught in Ohio waters. “The Great Miami is one of the best waterways to hunt for trophy-sized smallmouth bass in the region,” said Barry Puskas, Chief of Engineering and Technical Services for the Miami Conservancy District, and an avid angler.

“The largest smallmouth bass caught in the Great Miami River in the last five years measured out at 24.3 inches,” said Donnie Knight, a Troy resident and biologist with the US Fish and Wildlife Service. “Smallmouth bass are plentiful in the Great Miami River from March through October, so it’s a great time to encourage anglers to get out on the water.”

This year, we’re opening up the tournament to the fly-fishing community as well as conventional spin anglers. We welcome all anglers to join our fishing challenge and catch some smallmouth bass on the Great Miami River, Ohio’s first federally-designated Water Trail.

Tournament rules and information include:

  • The fishing challenge is open to all ages for both spin (conventional) fishing and fly-fishing divisions.
  • Registration fee is only $25.
  • Prizes will be awarded for 5 categories for both spin and fly fishing:
    • Largest Smallmouth Bass (1st, 2nd, 3rd place)
    • Random drawings for both spin (conventional) and fly-fishing participants who catch smallmouth bass in the following lengths:
      • 12”-13.75 inches
      • 14”-15.75”
      • 16”-17.75”
      • 18” and greater

For complete rules and to register for the tournament, visithttps://tinyurl.com/2022fishingchallenge

To download the I-Angler app to register for the Great Miami Riverway fishing challenge and record your catches, on your device, available on the App Store or Google Play:

Kaleta & Super Yamba Band at Levitt

June 6, 2022 By Dayton937

Brooklyn’s Kaleta & Super Yamba Band are fronted by Afrobeat and Juju veteran Leon Ligan-Majek a.k.a. Kaleta. The singer/guitarist from the West African country of Benin Republic lived his adolescent life in Lagos, Nigeria where Afrobeat was born. Kaleta’s guitar chops earned him decades of touring and recording with Fela Kuti, King Sunny Ade, Lauryn Hill and more. Kaleta got his start in the late 70s performing in church and was soon after picked up by iconic Jujumaster and world music pioneer King Sunny Ade. Now based in New York City, Kaleta has been leading Super Yamba Band since 2017. Their debut album was included on Bandcamp’s “Best Albums of Summer 2019” list and two of the songs were chosen for the ABC/Hulu Series, High Fidelity starring Zoe Kravitz. Kaleta and his band have also erupted onto the stages and video screens of major music festivals and music publications across the US. Collaborating over several years with Senegalese griot and talking drum master Modou Mbenge was a defining moment in the development of Super Yamba’s sound and the musician’s understanding of the African music tradition.

Troy Strawberry Fest – Sat & Sunday!

June 2, 2022 By Dayton937

The festival started out very small in 1977 and has grown every year. The family oriented affair has been self-supporting from the start with the help of many Troy area businesses sponsoring specific events. Today, the event is a community wide effort involving thousands of volunteers organized by a committee of over 40 men and women. It generates enough income each year to finances a host of community service projects.

The above information is the key to the Troy Strawberry Festival’s success – just everyday folk turning their time, talents, and energy into a fun, family community event that attracts over 200,000 visitors each year to the Troy area.

‘Mean Girls’ means Fun and ‘Fetch!’

June 2, 2022 By Joshua Stucky

How can we ever forget our awkward days in hight school, especially when ‘Mean Girls’ nails those inner-demons so well. Tina Fey’s musical has a little bit of everything you want in a show, and some things you didn’t know you needed. It’s all here….just as it was in your high school cafeteria: Two faced friends, un-warranted anxieties over the stupidest things, lost loves, new-found hate, uncomfortable silence, unbearable noise….you get the picture! The difference in the musical and our everyday high school is the amount of talent in this cast…..REMARKABLE!

We have all been to a show where there are one or two characters we depend on to belt the songs, score the dance moves and bring up the energy. This cast doesn’t miss a beat! All of this talent, working in harmony, to remind us. that somewhere, somehow, we all belong! When the show begins, so do the laughs…Damian Hubbard (played with pure zeal by Eric Huffman lets the audience settle into the hysteria that. is soon to incur. His wry ‘Where Do You Belong?’ brings the entire audience back to those days of angst from 9th-12th grade! And it is from there we encounter songs like ‘Sexy‘ (Which brought back nightmares to this formal teacher at Halloween Time), to the first act anthem ‘Fearless‘ which keeps us all rooting for Cady Heron  (played with that great blend of vulnerable and voracious by English Bernhardt).

I am not one to want more musicals based on movies. It causes a certain expectation that raises the bar fairly high…but it’s the writing in this show that allows the musical to navigate, seamlessly, through the story we all know. ‘Mean Girls’ are the ones we hate but want to be….and in being a ‘Mean Girl’ you somehow seem you have made the big time. You remember it. You recognize those people on the stage….muscle-heads, nerds, geeks, pot-heads…..and you can’t help but wonder where they are today!

Outside of the music and mayhem there is a stage that fascinates with its high tech scene changes, which launch us from African Savannah to High School Cafeteria, Math Class to bright pink bedrooms. The variety of settings alone is engaging and exciting to see. The use of props throughout the show leans to genius…(of note, the cafeteria trays…ummm, YES!)…and those rolling cafeteria tables we all got accustomed to as kids are a mainstay of the ‘fast-paced’ frenzy that is ‘Mean Girls.’

It’s not all fun and games, for sure. ‘What’s Wrong with Me’ (performed by Jasmine Rogers with heart and grit) struck a chord and took me back to those days of wanting to just fit in. And there it is….at its core. Wanting to fit in! ‘Mean Girls‘ keeps us laughing all the way, as Fey’s 2004 film did. Little do we realize that as we are laughing, we are learning the most valuable of lessons…..JUST BE YOU!

There were a few moments in the show when I thought the music was a little loud….(ok, I’ve been out of high school for 40 years)…but it, too, reminded me that I long for that feeling of innocence and finding my place. ‘Mean Girls‘ makes no apologies for its direct hit on social status, and that’s important. There’s a lot of people pulling us all in different directions, even for us adults…..but as the song reminds us ‘I’d Rather be Me!‘
