Mcdonald’s is giving customers a chance to win free food for life with a McGold Card. The public first learned about the McGold card — a popular McDonald’s wives’ tale — when Rob Lowe put his on display during a 2015 segment of “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” But he wasn’t the first cardholder, and he didn’t win his privileges in a public giveaway.
This year, McDonald’s must be in the spirit of giving because it’s handing out 12 of its elusive McGold Cards, and all people have to do to enter the contest is spend more than $1 through the McDonald’s app. It all kicks off on December 5.
Every weekend leading up to Christmas (starting December 10), McDonald’s will select one winner to receive a McGold Card for themselves, plus three friends — it’s the season of sharing after all. The McDonald’s for Life winners are entitled to two free meals per week for the next 50 years, according to the sweepstakes rules.
To enter the McGold Card giveaway all you have to do is order using the McDonald’s app. Every purchase you make through the app during the SZN of Sharing (December 5-25) gives you a chance to win.

And, if you read the fine print, you’ll see that you can get a free entry every day without buying anything from McDonald’s. To find the full rules and information for entering without making a purchase, you can go to the McDonald’s for Life Appstakes website.
Three grand-prize winners will receive a McDonald’s McGold Card, “with a value of $1,040 per year for fifty years” to be used at participating locations, as well as an additional $22,285 “to help offset taxes,” according to the official rules. “Our fans have been fascinated by the lore of the McGold Card and if it really exists. And now, we’ll make this McDonald’s legend a reality for our fans by giving them the ultimate holiday gift — a chance to win a card and then share access to it with three of their family or friends,” said Tariq Hassan, McDonald’s USA Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer.

Dayton Ballet Barre offers fun holiday tradition with Sugar Plum Tea, a children’s tradition before the December 18th matinee performance of the Dayton Ballet’s The Nutcracker. This is the first Tea back since the pandemic shutdown, and organizers are planning a fun comeback event at the Dayton Woman’s Club, which is within walking distance of the Schuster Center.
The Dayton Ballet Barre is the Dayton Ballet’s volunteer booster organization, and one of their signature events is the long-running Sugar Plum Tea. Held prior to one of the matinee performances of the Ballet’s beloved Nutcracker production, it’s become a holiday tradition that families look forward to. Geared towards children and parents / grandparents, the afternoon tea promises to provide many cherished memories.
“We love hosting this children’s event!” Libby Ballengee, the Ballet Barre’s Secretary and past President, shared with us. “It’s like Prom for five-year-olds. We adore seeing all the kid’s sparkly dresses & suits. It’s a really special afternoon, and we’re so happy to be back hosting this after two years off.”
The Tea lasts for 90 min, enough time for to enjoy hot beverages & tea sandwiches, make a craft, learn a short dance from the Sugar Plum Fairy, and hear the story of The Nutcracker under the Christmas Tree. Each moment provides a beautiful photo opportunity against the gorgeous back-drop of the Dayton Woman’s Club.

It’s opening day for the Third Perk Express at the Mall at Fairfield Common. Third Perk Express is a sister cafe of Third Perk Coffeehouse which opened its doors in downtown Dayton in 2015. Today, Mayor Jeffrey Mims and Commissioner Matt Joseph unveiled the City of Dayton’s latest purchase of electric vehicles, five new Chevrolet Bolt EUVs.The new electric vehicles replace internal-combustion engine vehicles that are aging out of the municipal fleet.

The EV acquisition is driven by “Strategy for a Sustainable Dayton,” a Commission-approved plan to move City of Dayton operations to more environmentally sensitive and sustainable conditions by pursuing continuous reductions in fossil fuel consumption. As part of the plan, the City pledged to convert its fleet to 100% electric vehicles by 2035.
“As a strong advocate for sustainability initiatives in Dayton, I am excited to see our commitments in action today” said Commission Matt Joseph. “We still have a long way to go to reach our goal to be fully electric by 2035, but we as a Commission are committed to electrifying the City fleet, which will not only reduce carbon emissions but save our residents money.”
“The purchase of these five vehicles is a continuation of our initiative to move Dayton in a more sustainable direction,” said City Manager Shelley Dickstein. “Our early implementation of the 2020 Sustainability Strategy and the 2021 Climate Emergency focused on making our electric energy consumption more efficient and renewable across the various City departments, buildings and facilities. These electric vehicles complement that initial work and will serve as a visible reminder of our progress toward being a greener community.”
The City of Dayton spent roughly $140,000 to obtain the five new Bolt EUVs, with plans to purchase several more electric vehicles in the coming months. On average, an electric vehicle can save $1,000 on fuel each year. Additionally, EVs are significantly less expensive to maintain as they do not require oil changes and other maintenance required by traditional vehicles powered by internal combustion engines.
The new vehicles will be deployed throughout the City organization. Departments or programs receiving vehicles from the purchase include Police, Planning, and the Dayton Mediation Center. The Bolt EUVs have a driving range of 247 miles per charge.
