A&W® Restaurants Celebrate National Root Beer Float Day

August 1, 2025 By Guest Contributor

A&W® Restaurants

A&W® Restaurants, America’s oldest franchised restaurant chain known for its signature Root Beer and All-American menu, is proud to continue its longstanding tradition of celebrating National Root Beer Float Day while supporting DAV (Disabled American Veterans), a nonprofit that empowers veterans and their families by providing critical resources and services.

On National Root Beer Float Day on Wednesday, August 6, A&W Restaurants is once again bringing sweet smiles and heartfelt gratitude to guests. From 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. local time, guests can visit participating A&W locations to enjoy a free small Root Beer Float, made fresh with A&W’s signature Root Beer and rich, creamy vanilla soft serve. No purchase is necessary, and guests of all ages are welcome to join in on the fun.

While the floats are on the house, customers are encouraged to make a voluntary donation to DAV or purchase a commemorative, limited-edition Collector’s Mug. Every dollar raised through donations and mug sales directly benefits veterans and their families, helping them access healthcare, employment assistance, and transportation to medical appointments, among other vital services.

“National Root Beer Float Day is one of our favorite days of the year, because not only do we love putting smiles on our guests’ faces with free treats, but we proudly give back to the people who have bravely served our country,” said Betsy Schmandt, CEO and President of A&W Restaurants. “Thanks to our generous guests and franchise partners, we’ve donated over $1 million to veteran-focused organizations to-date, and this year, we’re aiming to make an even greater impact.”

Through August 6, A&W fans can support DAV with voluntary donations or by purchasing a limited-edition 2025 A&W Collector’s Root Beer Mug for $10 at participating locations, while supplies last. 100% of the proceeds from mug sales will benefit DAV, whose funds provide emergency relief, caregiver support, and advocacy for over one million veterans in local communities across the U.S. This year’s commemorative mug features Rooty the Great Root Bear®, A&W’s beloved mascot. The sturdy glass mug is ideal for keeping your floats frosty long after the celebration ends, perfect for collectors and root beer lovers alike.

A Legacy of Giving
Since launching its annual National Root Beer Float Day celebrations in 2013, A&W Restaurants and its guests have proudly raised over $1 million to support American veterans and their families. This annual tradition is part of the brand’s ongoing commitment to community service and its enduring belief in honoring those who have served, which dates back more than a century.

Local Brewery Up For Sale

August 1, 2025 By Lisa Grigsby

Bock Family Brewing in Washington Township near Centerville will be going up for sal soon.  It will be listed with a realtor soon, but if you have ever thought about owning a brewery, here is your chance!
Owner Jen Bock says “it was a hard decision to make.” Jen and her husband took over the license and location of Sojourner’s Distillery in 2021. In 2024 they added a German street food kitchen.  The Bocks “want to get back to our normal lives with our kid and day jobs we always still had. The brewery isn’t failing, we just ran out of gas.”
Everything is basically brand new and this is a true turn-key business. You can come in and operate on day one! The lease is 5 years at this beautifully renovated 6,000 square foot spot with ample parking. The brewery includes a 7 bbl brewhouse, six 7 bbl fermenters, hundreds of kegs, a 2 keg powerful keg washer, glycol chiller, a kitchen and lots of wood seating. The sale includes an A1C, A1A, A2, D6, Level 4 food license and 3 music licenses, as well as a Ford Transit van! Owners will stay on to train and the staff is willing to stay on as well for the right owners.
Email us at [email protected] for more information. Serious inquiries only. The sale must be finalized by the end of 2025.

Centerville’s Mudlick Tap House Soft Opening Happening Now

August 1, 2025 By Lisa Grigsby

Yesterday the doors opened for the first day of the soft opening of the new Mudlick Tap House in Uptown Centerville.  In September of last year they had the official ground breaking. Oberer managed to complete the build in just under a year. Yesterday a full house most of the day and the weather cooperated for enjoying the large patio as well.
The city of Centerville has created a public lot behind the restaurant, with plenty of parking.

“We’ve been overwhelmed by the support and enthusiasm for our new location,” said Jennifer Williams, Co-Owner of Mudlick Tap House. “We’re incredibly excited to welcome guests and to kick things off with events that give back to organizations we truly care about.”

Lots of staff, some that came from the downtown location, as well as many new faces were behind the bar, in the dining room and staffing the kitchen.
During the soft opening, Mudlick invites you to join them, but reminds you that team is still learning the ropes, so they thank you for your patience as they fine-tune the experience.

This weeks soft opening benefits SICSA Pet Adoption and Wellnes Center, next week supports Camp Joy, with their mission to help people grow and succeed through life-long experience based learning and Aug 12 – 17  will benefit HoofPrints Ohio, an equine therapy program.  Reservations can be made online for the soft opening via Mudlick’s website.  This weekend the most open reservations are for the Boozy Brunch on Saturday and Sunday. During the soft opening, Mudlick is not doing carryout orders.

Enjoy scratch-made pub fare, craft cocktails, and a welcoming vibe all while supporting causes close to the heart!
