Halloween Candy Wrapper Recycling

October 31, 2022 By Dayton937

Research shows that in the United States alone, more than 600 million pounds of candy are purchased each year for Halloween. The vast majority of candy wrappers end up in landfills due to an inability by most curbside recycling programs to recycle them. That’s where Rubicon comes in.

By participating in Trick or Trash™, you don’t have to trash those candy wrappers and doom them to an eternity in a landfill—or, even worse, in our oceans. Using one of our custom candy wrapper recycling boxes, you can help keep our planet clean and contribute to the circular economy.

Beginning November 1st and continuing until Nov 15th you can recycle wrappers at the following locations:

Centerville – Metropolitan Dry Cleaners (Drive-Thru) at 70 N. Main St, 45459

Dayton – Main Branch Library (Downtown) 215 E. Third St., 45402 (it’s located in the Copy room)

Washington Township – RecPlex East, 895 Miamisburg-C’ville Rd, Dayton OH

Centerville-WashingtonTwp Park District, 221 N. Main Street, C’ville, OH 45459 (til Nov.6th)

LTC Charity Adams and the women of The Six Triple Eight Documentary Screenig

October 31, 2022 By Dayton937

In February 1945, the U.S. Army sent 855 black women from the Women’s Army Corps “WACs” to England and France to clear the backlog of mail in the European Theater of Operations. The 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, known as the SixTripleEight, was the only all-black female battalion to serve in Europe during WWII.

Confronted with racism and sexism from their own leadership and troops, they served with honor and distinction completing their mission in six months. By war’s end, the SixTripleEight had cleared over 17 million pieces of backlogged mail ensuring the troops stayed in touch with their loved ones back home. The last of the women returned home in March 1946.

They were never fully recognized until now.

Join us as we honor former Dayton Ohio community leader Charity Adams and the women of The SixTripleEight with screening of the documentary created by Lincoln Penny Films.

LTC Charity Adams

The Six Triple Eight, a World War II film, shares the relatively-unknown story of the 6888, the Central Postal Directory Battalion, the only all-black female battalion to serve in Europe during the war. Their mission: to clear the backlog of mail in Birmingham, England and Rouen, France. By war’s end the women, the unit had cleared over 17 million pieces of mail. The film was nominated for Best Documentary at the Charlotte Black Film Festival in April 2019. May 13-17, 2019, James and two producers of the film, traveled to England, courtesy of the US Embassy to screen the film at universities and venues throughout the UK. Dubbed the Six Triple Eight UK Tour, the film was well-received in England and Scotland.

By the end of WWII, LTC Charity Adams was the highest ranking African American female in the Armed Forces.

Free screening of this film will be shown:

Fri, Nov 4th 2pm
Wilberforce University Screening,

Sat, Nov 5th 3:00pm
Sinclair College Screening

Attendance is free, but reservations are requested.

Reserve here.

This screening is made possible by Montgomery County Veterans Service Commission, The Dayton Woman’s Club, The Dayton Foundation and Tim & Mary Riordan.

Monday’s Powerball Jackpot $1 billion!

October 30, 2022 By Dayton937

The Powerball® jackpot has reached an estimated $1 billion ($497.3 million cash) for the next drawing on Monday, Oct. 31. This is the second time in Powerball’s 30-year history that the advertised jackpot has reached $1 billion.

If a player wins Monday’s jackpot, it will be the second largest jackpot in Powerball history, only behind the world record $1.586 billion Powerball jackpot, and fifth largest jackpot in U.S. lottery history.

Powerball tickets are $2 per play. Tickets are sold in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. More than half of all proceeds from the sale of a Powerball ticket remain in the jurisdiction where the ticket was sold. Powerball drawings are broadcast live every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 pm from the Florida Lottery draw studio in Tallahassee. Powerball drawings are also live streamed online at

For an additional $1 per play, the Power Play feature can multiply non-jackpot prizes by 2, 3, 4, 5 or 10 times! The multiplier number is randomly selected just before each drawing.  The 10X multiplier is only in play when the advertised jackpot annuity is $150 million or less.

Did you know your odds of winning a prize are the same in every Powerball drawing?

Odds of winningYou have a 1 in 24.9 chance of winning a prize when the advertised jackpot is $40 million.

You still have a 1 in 24.9 chance of winning a prize when the advertised jackpot is $1 billion.

Even if there are more tickets sold in a particular drawing, your odds of winning a prize are the same.

Value of the Annuity

Jackpot winners can either select their prize as an annuity or a lump-sum payment.

Payments

If the annuity option is selected, the winner is guaranteed to receive 30 graduated payments over 29 years.

The annual payments increase by 5% until the 30th and final payment.

The 30 payments added up equal the value of the annuity.

Ben Stalets Live at Blind Bob’s

October 29, 2022 By Dayton937

Ben Stalets is not a songwriter; he’s a song. Realizing he couldn’t wash the Toledo off, Ben leaned into it. Inspired by the blue collar underdogs and anti-heroes the rust belt surrounds you with. Talking to Ben is talking to an old friend, and that’s exactly how his songs are written and shows performed. As comfortable in a bar room as he is in a listening room, by the 3rd verse of the first song, Stalets will have the room quiet enough to hear someone clutching their pearls, just before the refrain gives permission to laugh again.
