Santana at The Rose

June 25, 2023 By Dayton937

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame guitarist Carlos Santana Delivers with a level of passion and soul equal to the legendary sonic charge of his guitar, the sound of Carlos Santana is one of the world’s best-known musical signatures. For more than five decades – from Santana’s earliest days as a ground-breaking Afro-Latin-blues-rock fusion outfit in San Francisco – Carlos Santana has been the visionary force behind artistry that transcends musical genres and generational, cultural, and geographical boundaries. To date, Santana has won ten GRAMMY Awards and three Latin GRAMMY Awards, with a record-tying nine GRAMMY Awards for a single project for 1999’s Supernatural (including Album of the Year and Record of the Year for “Smooth”). He has received the Billboard Century Award (1996), was ushered into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (1998), received the Billboard Latin Music Awards’ Lifetime Achievement honor (2009), and was the recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors Award (2013). Among many other distinctions, Carlos Santana has been cited by Rolling Stone as #15 on their list of the “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time;” and has joined the Rolling Stones as one of only two bands to have an album reach the Top 10 in every decade since the 1960s. In 2018, he released his first MasterClass, and recently celebrated three epic milestones – the 20th anniversary of his ground-breaking album Supernatural, the 50th anniversary of his legendary performance at Woodstock, and the 50th anniversary of his masterpiece Abraxas. His most recent album, the powerful, energy-infused Blessings and Miracles (2021) features collaborations with Rob Thomas, Chris Stapleton, Steve Winwood, and many others. Santana continues his residency at the House of Blues Las Vegas where he celebrated his 10th anniversary of performing in the intimate venue in May 2022.

Mamma DiSalvo’s 44 years and still dishin’ up the goods!

June 23, 2023 By Jim Bucher

Chef Roberto and Mamma

Rinaldo and Elena DiSalvo opened Mamma DiSalvo’s Italian Ristorante and began serving  on June 8, 1979 with assistance from Elena parents Pasquale and Bambina Bernardo (Now, that’s Italian!) began serving mamma’s secret family recipes from the Abruzzi-Molise Region – one of ITALY’S Best Kept secrets. It is our passion to provide your family with the best authentic Italian Food in Dayton, heck maybe in the country. AND WE MEAN IT!

Coming from Italy’s best kept secret region. Chef Roberto and his wife Shari, along with kids Vincenzo, Abigale, and grandson Luca, they all pitch in to continue the traditions.

While the business has grown over the years, their traditions remain using the same recipes. They’ve remodeled a little bit here and there, but if you haven’t dined with the DiSalvo’s lately the deliciousness has not changed. And you know what they say, ‘if it aint broke why on earth mess with perfection.

Son (Roberto) Bobby wants to take this time to thank all his guests. Without them there would be no Mamma’s world-famous pasta dishes and don’t forget the sauce which is magnifico . And, the meatballs. Don’t get me started on the meatballs. WOW. Ship me around three dozen frozen. That should take care of lunch. Then save some bread for dipping and wiping clean the bowls.

Chef Roberto thanks everyone for dining at DiSalvo’s for the past 44 years. Bobby  was just a baby stirring the sauce, with mamma’s guidance of course. By the way, you can get sauce to go or pick up at most of your local grocery stores.

Or how about this … you’ve moved out of town but still crave that little bit of home. Mamma’s ships sauce, dressing and just about everything in-between. Also, depending on what state, DiSalvo’s can pack and ship a little vino for your meals. Heck for the right price they may include Chef Roberto to do the cooking!

We’ve debuted five new sauces on the menu this year – four limited-time only flavors and now Blazin’ Knockout,” says Tristan Meline, Chief Marketing Officer at Buffalo Wild Wings. “Made with nine of the hottest peppers, Blazin’ Knockout is the fiercest sauce in our stacked lineup for our guests who really love heat.”

Spicy food lovers and B-Dubs fans who want to put their taste buds to the test can attempt the Blazin’ Challenge, where they’ll try to finish 10 Blazin’ Knockout wings in five minutes or less with no water or napkins.

Centerville Couple To Open Meridien This Fall in Uptown Centerville

June 22, 2023 By Lisa Grigsby

We first broke the news last weekend that the former Sweeney’s restaurant property had been sold. New owners Rhonda and Matt Hiatt have revealed that after a major renovations to the building, they hope to be opening Meridien this fall.  As of this week they’ve already ripped up flooring, started installing a new roof and changing the bar area.  They’ll be adding a two sided, 30 seat bar with a lounge area with couches behind it.

Matt said he considers what they are opening as more of a lounge with small plates, as opposed to a restaurant. Offering great wines and cocktails where you can relax and enjoy with friends.  When asking him for more about what they plan, he said they plan on lower price points than Manna and more upscale than Bargos.  As a Centerville resident who lives just a few blocks away from the Franklin location, he and his wife want to bring the experiences they’ve had while traveling to his own backyard.

He envisions Meridien as the kind of place that can host small parties, charity fundraisers and be “a place where community and culture can kind of intersect and have some really great experiences.”

Drinks with Dignitaries at the Neon’s Patio Parties!

June 20, 2023 By Joshua Stucky

Nothing says summer like a patio, a bar and bunch of friends! For the Neon Movies, the time has come to turn their patio into the Place to Be Seen! Starting this Friday, June 23rd, the Neon Movies kicks off its Summer Patio Parties with special guests, The Boys Behind the RubiGirls! “Last year, we started having our board members on the patio serving beers and popcorn and just having a good time with the community. This year, we want to continue that and add even more energy!” says Jonathan McNeal, the Neon‘s manager. “We are ready for some vibrancy at this busy corner.” (5th Street and Patterson.)

RubiGirls to kick-off parties on 6/23.

The theater, which sits just outside the Oregon District, is a beloved treasure in the Dayton Community. Having parties on the patio can only enhance its charm. “We have such a great beer selection. And it is ever-changing. Of course, we have favorites like Sam Adams Cherry Wheat, Goose Island Neon Beer Hug, Shiner Box Peach Wheat Ale, and a local gem (From Springfield) Mother Stewart’s Disco Dancer. And there is more than beer at the Neon! There is also wine and plenty of other options!” McNeal shared that DORA being expanded could be a great boost to business. “I think people will more easily see that it it reaches outside of 5th Street. That’s good for us!”

Dayton’s Beloved Neon!

The patio parties are scheduled to run through August, but….”If the momentum is good, we will go on into the Fall.” McNeal added. Popcorn, a DJ and even some upcoming trivia will take part at the events. What really stands out is the guest hosts this summer. “We have plenty of fun hosts and hostesses. Mark Allan (Channel 2)  and his wife Lisa; Our County Commissioners, Judy Dodge, Carolyn Rice and Debbie Lieberman; Juliette Fromholt (WYSO); Sabrina Cox (Haus of Sequins); Brian and Mark Sharp; Michael Roediger (DAI); Former Mayors Rhine McLin and Nan Whaley. Just to name a few.”

The Parties start at 5:30pm pm on scheduled Fridays and end at 7:30pm. All parties are weather permitting. And since our weather has been anything but normal, keep in mind the Neon sells their fabulous Hoodies and Tees!! Also of note, the Neon is also exploring the idea adding an awning to the patio in the future. (Great donation opportunity!)

Barbie comes in July!

Beyond rubbing elbows with Dayton’s Dignitaries, the Neon, is of course, a cinema. Like other art forms, the theater can engage the community in many ways. This summer looks promising for movies as well. Asteroid City is opening this weekend, (the new Wes Anderson film); the much anticipated Barbie arrives in July; The League, which highlights Dayton’s role in the Negro leagues and Miracle Club which stars favorites Laura Linney, Maggie Smith and Kathy Bates.

Mark your calendars! Enter the Velvet Ropes! Plop under an Umbrella! Enjoy the Patio Parties at the Neon!

The Neon Movies is located at 130 East 5th Street. Plenty of Parking across the street at the former Greyhound Lot. For more information call 937.222.8452. or neonmovies.com

White Castle Adds 2 New Chicken Ring Flavors

June 20, 2023 By Dayton937

White Castle is taking its Chicken Ring game to a new flavor level with the introduction of new Hidden Valley Ranch Chicken Rings and Spicy Buffalo Chicken Rings.

New Hidden Valley Ranch Chicken Rings feature all-white meat chicken on the inside and crispy breading on the outside, all coated with a dusting of Hidden Valley’s blend of buttermilk, garlic and special blend of herbs and spices.

Meanwhile, the new Spicy Buffalo Chicken Rings bring the heat with cayenne pepper, vinegar, garlic and paprika.

To celebrate, White Castle is offering an order of 12 Chicken Rings (any flavor) for a suggested price of $3.99.

The addition of these two exclusive flavors means there are three versions of the Chicken Rings to savor and share among family and friends. The tried-and-true Classic Chicken Ring features tender all white meat chicken on the inside and crispy breading on the outside.
