Taco Bell’s Cheesy Street Chalupa and Jalapeno Ranch Nacho Fries Hit The Menu

July 18, 2024 By Dayton937

Hitting the Mexican fast food chain’s menu Thursday, July 18, is the Cheesy Street Chalupa, made with mozzarella and pepperjack cheese and topped with fresh onions and cilantro and creamy Jalapeño Ranch sauce. You can get two for $5.49 and choose to have them filled with slow-roasted Cantina chicken or grilled, marinated steak.

“The Chalupa has taken many delicious forms over the years, but with the Cheesy Street Chalupas, we set out to create a new flavor-rich way for fans to enjoy the beloved menu item,” said Luis Restrepo, Taco Bell’s vice president for product innovation, in a press release. “The fresh onions and cilantro atop layers of cheese and premium proteins seasoned to perfection adds a different flavor profile and is our playful nod to the street taco that we all know and love.”

The Chalupa was first introduced in 1999 and has since featured several iterations such as the XXL Chalupa, the Baja Chalupa, and the Nacho Cheese Doritos Locos Chalupa. The street-sized cheese-stuffed Chalupa shells were inspired by the Quesalupa shell, one of Chalupa’s spinoffs that was introduced in 2016 for a limited time.

Taco Bell is adding a twist to its fan favorite nacho fries, but it won’t stick around. The new jalapeno ranch Nacho Fries hit menus Thursday, July 18, at participating Taco Bell restaurants nationwide, according to the fast-food chain.  For $4.49, customers can get a bed of seasoned fries “topped with a tangy and creamy jalapeño ranch sauce” and pico de gallo, a product description reads. Customers can add their choice of protein. Nacho fries reappeared on menus in April, a spicier iteration that featured a blend of ranch and Serrabanero hot sauce by Secret Aardvark, McClatchy News previously reported. “With the latest edition of Jalapeño Ranch Nacho Fries, this is the longest Nacho Fries run to date for Taco Bell, bringing fans more chances to grab their favorite fries with more flavor innovations to enjoy, while supplies last,” Taco Bell said in a news release.

Restaurants Taking a Summer Vacation

July 16, 2024 By Lisa Grigsby

Summer break isn’t just for students. While the warmer days of summer mean “ramp-up time” for restaurants in many beach cities, industry folk here in Dayton are accustomed to the opposite. As students go on sabbatical, many restaurant owners have created a habit of following suit, closing up shop from days to weeks.

Whether giving their teams time to refresh or using the time to freshen up their space, we thought it would be nice to spread the word on those we’re aware of and invite you to use their summer break as an extra excuse to try somewhere new.

The King and I

July 15, 2024 By Dayton937

The Miami Valley Symphony Orchestra presents THE KING AND I this summer at the Arbogast Perfroming Arts Center. This timeless musical first premiered on Broadway in March 1951 and has since enjoyed several sensational runs over the last 75 years. Associate Conductor, James Johnston, leads an orchestra of 60 musicians performing the original full symphony score. Brian Sharp directs. Shows Fri – Sun, July 19- 21 at Arbogast Performing Arts Center

Featuring a trove of cherished songs, including “Shall We Dance,” “Something Wonderful,” “Whistle a Happy Tune,” “Hello Young Lovers” and, “Getting to Know You” The year is 1862 in Siam when an English widow, Anna Leonowens, and her young son arrive at the Royal Palace in Bangkok, having been summoned by the King to serve as tutor to his many children and wives. The King is largely considered to be a “barbarian” by those in the West, and he seeks Anna’s assistance in changing his image, if not his ways. With both keeping a firm grip on their respective traditions and values, Anna and the King grow to understand and respect one another in a truly unique love story.

Buffalo Nichols Bring The Blues to Levitt

July 15, 2024 By Dayton937

On his second album, The Fatalist, Carl “Buffalo” Nichols does things with the blues that might catch you off guard. There’s 808 programming, chopped up Charley Patton samples, washes of synth. There’s a consideration of the fullness of the sonic stage and the atmospherics of the music that can only come with a long engagement with electronic music. But this is no gimmicky hybrid or attempt to turn the blues into 21st century music by simply dressing it with skittering hi-hats. Nichols’ vision for the blues is of a form of music that’s intimately tied to everyday life in 2024, something that’s reflected not only in the choice of instrumentation, but in the complexities of the songwriting and the gray areas his lyrics explore. This is music that comes straight from the present, and as such, it’s a reminder that the same shit that drove the first blues singers to pick up a guitar is still present behind the throbs of deep bass hits today. The Fatalist sounds unlike any blues record you’re likely to hear in 2024.

Centerville Has a New Option for Greek Cuisine

July 14, 2024 By Lisa Grigsby

Opening Monday, July 15th at 10am in the Cornerstone development in Centerville, The Great Greek will be serving up gyros, greek salads, falafels, Grilled Lamb Souvlaki and feta fries  as well as four signature house-made dips, including Hummus, Tzatziki, Melitzanosalata (eggplant dip) and Tirokafteri (spicy roasted red pepper).
and more.  This fast casual eatery is the first Ohio franchise for the Florida based chain.

Miss Karla with a K and Rohit (Rick) Patel

Entrepreneur and 12-year Dayton-area resident and franchise owner Rohit (Rick) Patel shared, “I’m excited to bring the delicious flavors of the Mediterranean to our community,” said Patel, an entrepreneur and 12-year Dayton-area resident. “When I discovered that The Great Greek Mediterranean Grill was built on a foundation of authentic recipes made fresh daily using high-quality ingredients, I knew it was something I wanted to be a part of.”

I was lucky enough to attend a sneak peek lunch this weekend.  I was greeted by General Manager, Miss Karla with a K, who exuded charm and warmth as she welcomed my and opened the door for me as she explained how I would order at the counter, get a number and my food would be brought to me at my table.  The small dining room seats about 25 and has a self service soda machine and tables for two, four or six.  The cashier was patient, made sure to explain what came with each dish and seemed excited to take orders.

During the sneak peek, there was a limited menu to choose from. I started my meal with the Spanakopita- spinach and Feta Cheese in a Flaky Puff Pastry.  It was huge over 4 inches long and about 2 inches high. A great vegetarian dish.
For my entree I sampled the gyro plate, which come with Tender Sliced Gyro Meat on Pita Bread with Rice Pilaf or French Fries or Feta Fries. It was a huge portion (I ended up taking half of it home for another meal).
And I couldn’t resist trying the Baklava Ice Cream for dessert. It was creamy and not too sweet with hunk of baklava in it.
The staff was awesome, eager to take care of the guest, keep the dining room clean and several of them stopped by to check on me, to see if I needed anything.  The corporate trainer, in town from Florida was coaching the staff, cross training them so they could hop in to any spot that was busy and making sure they understood hospitality.
I  truly can’t wait to go back and try more of the menu items with  wide variety of customizable options, including the Classic Greek Salad or Rice Bowl with a choice of gyro meat, salmon and more. Guests can indulge in unique offerings like made-to-order, fresh Feta Fries and must-have desserts like Baklava and Rice Pudding.

Franchise owner Rohit (Rick) Patel mentioned he is already looking for additional locations to open in 2025, perhaps Beavercreek, Huber Heights or Springboro, wherever he can find the right space.

The Great Greek Mediterranean Grill specializes in catering large parties, events, and meetings and is perfect for family gatherings. It offers memorable, mouthwatering Mediterranean spreads that include  build-your-own Gyros and savory Souvlaki Skewers accompanied by buttery Rice Pilaf, crisp Greek Salad, authentic dips and delectable desserts, as well as box lunches.

Be sure and check out their Greek eats and tell them DaytonDining sent you!
